The decision has been made due to the current National State of Disaster under Coronavirus COVID-19 lockdown guidelines. The Don Mattera Lecture was due to be held at the Radisson Blue Hotel, Gautrain Room, Sandton, Johannesburg on 6th February 2021.

The inaugural lecture was planned to pay homage to the iconic poet, author and orator Dr Don Mattera commonly referred to as Bra “Zinga” with the theme THE CHILD– in 2030, “Creating a sustainable, conducive FUTURE ENVIRONMENT for the CHILD”.

Dr Teddy Mattera, Vice-Chair says, “The Foundation has made considerable headway to host the first Don Mattera Lecture, but we had to be responsible and therefore we made this crucial decision based on the realities on the ground to rather postpone the event, for now”.

The Foundation has confirmed several high-profile speakers, namely, internationally renowned education expert Professor Jonathan Jansen to deliver the keynote address, celebrated journalist and newspaper editor Ferial Haffajee as moderator to an esteemed panel comprising, Professor Pitika Ntuli, Dr Shaheeda Omar and Dr Tahir Sototo. We thank them and look forward with much anticipation to their participation at this prestigious event later in the year.

Ms Jenny Jeftha, Chairperson of the Don Mattera Legacy Foundation says, “As a Foundation we all have to make sacrifices in the interest of the well-being of the greater society, and therefore the need to postpone the lecture to a later date in the year which is yet to be announced. We have the responsibility to not only safeguard our Patron Dr Mattera, but the lives of all the invited guest that were due to attend the lecture”.

The Foundation will announce the rescheduled date as soon as the relaxation of the National State of Disaster under Coronavirus COVID-19 lockdown rules are announced.
